The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a major prize-giving event nears, you'll find a demand for the addition of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
